Supporting the people around us who are experiencing poor mental health has become a priority for many people and the organisations they work in. A greater understanding of common mental health issues has developed over the last few years and there has been a rise in the number of people who want to act as a Mental Health First Aider, to support and guide those around them. By developing a greater understanding of common mental health issues, as well as how best to support and guide someone experiencing poor mental health, Mental Health First Aiders play a vital role in reducing the stigma associated with mental health in the UK.
Throughout this 2-day online course, learners will develop the knowledge, skills and confidence to actively promote positive mental health in the workplace by covering a range of topics, including: understanding mental health and its importance, awareness of their own wellbeing as a Mental Health First Aider, common mental health conditions, how to support those experiencing poor mental health at work with tools such as active listening and non-judgemental support.

This qualification is for people who wish to:
- Raise their awareness of the signs and symptoms associated with mental health problems both related to the workplace and in the general public
- Be able to actively listen and feel confident to have a conversation with individuals suffering potential mental ill-health
- Be able to assist with policy writing and risk assessments for mental health in the workplace
- Direct anyone with potential mental health problems to a reliable source of support both internally and externally
Entry requirements
Learners must be at least 18 years old on the first day of the training. Learners should have an interest in the area of mental health due to the content of the course and the nature of the role of the mental health first aider. There are no other formal entry requirements but to benefit from the learning we advise that Learners have a minimum of Level 2 in literacy.
Assessment Methods
For this qualification there is:
- Theory assessment/multiple choice question paper – there is 1 paper for each Learner and Learners should answer all the questions under ‘examination’ conditions using Multiple Choice Question Paper
- Maximum time allowed is 40 minutes
- Minimum mark is 18 out of 25 to be considered for an overall ‘Pass’.
How long does the qualification last
The certificate date is the date the Learner achieves the final unit. This qualification is valid for 3 years. The Learner needs to re-take the qualification and the assessments on or before the end of the 3 years to remain qualified.
After I have Booked
Once you have booked the course, you will receive a confirmation email within 48 hours. This will provide the details of the training course and venue address if it is face to face at one of our venues. You will receive joining instructions if it is online and also information about the course and what to bring on the day.
